Sophie Turner clarified on social media that her recent statements about the difficulties of single motherhood were not about her personal experience. The 28-year-old actress, who shares daughters Willa (4) and Delphine (2) with her ex-husband Joe Jonas, addressed the confusion in an Instagram Stories post on September 30. She explained that her comments about the struggles of being a single mother were about her character Joan Hannington in the upcoming TV series *Joan*, and not about her own life. Turner said she was misquoted by various publications and emphasized that the context of her original interview with the Sunday Times Culture section, published on September 29, made it apparent she was discussing her character.

The former *Game of Thrones* star also expressed gratitude for the support she has in raising her two daughters, acknowledging that many single mothers do not have such help. “I am very fortunate personally to have a lot of help around me, which is not the case for a lot of people,” she noted, applauding single mothers who manage alone.

In the Sunday Times interview, Sophie connected with her character Joan as a mother, praising Joan’s sacrifices and determination to fight for her daughter. She mentioned that becoming a mother herself enhanced her portrayal of Joan. Speaking about the challenges Joan faces as a single mother, Turner said, “It’s such a struggle being a single mother. Joan doesn’t go about it in the best way … but it is amazing to see her really fighting for her daughter.” Adding, “It’s also really important for kids to see just how hard parents work for them.”

Turner, who recently finalized her divorce from Joe Jonas, revealed that working on *Joan* during such a tumultuous time in her personal life gave her strength. “Joan changed me quite a lot,” she said. “From utter desperation comes so much will and ambition.” Turner’s ex-husband Joe filed for divorce in September 2023, and after a rocky start, they agreed on a custody arrangement for their daughters the following month.

Sharing her aspirations for a harmonious co-parenting future, Turner told British Vogue in May that she hoped for a large family Christmas where everyone comes together for the sake of their daughters. “I don’t care about the politics, I just want the girls to feel loved and have everyone show up for them,” she said.

Turner, who is now dating real estate developer Peregrine Pearson, has been navigating life post-divorce with newfound resilience. Shortly after confirming her split from Jonas, she was seen enjoying a girls’ night out in New York City with Taylor Swift. Despite the initial legal challenges following their separation, including a lawsuit that Turner filed for the return of their children to England, the former couple reached a temporary agreement in October.

Turner began dating British aristocrat Peregrine Pearson later in October, and she appeared to embrace this new chapter in her life by January 2024, referring to the previous year as “the year of girlies.”

Reflecting on the past year’s events, Turner told British Vogue in May 2024 that while she was unhappy with how things unfolded, especially concerning her children, she believed she and Jonas were doing the best they could under the circumstances. “Joe is a great father to our children and that’s all that I can ask for,” she said.
